In this session:
Lia Pa’apa’a shares her journey home through rediscovering her ancestral foods and other cultural practices to revive these traditions to pass on to her son. She also shares how delving into her own desires for support during the earlier years of being a mother has lead her to help others to come home to themselves through Ngamumu, a global indigenous space for mothers and their babies during the first 1000 days.

Lia is an artist who hails from Samoa and the Luiseño nation of Southern California. She is an artist, Community Arts Cultural Development practitioner and mama. Lia’s creative project Plant Based Native explores connection to ancestors and lands through plant uses in food, weaving and medicines. Lia is also the co-creator and lead artist of Ngamumu (For Mothers) a global indigenous space for mothers and their babies during the first 1000 days. Ngamumu delivers community workshops, is producing a digital symposium and is currently in creative development for a theatre show.
